Ahead of the June 16 release of Netflix’s and AGBO’s Extraction 2, which quickly became its biggest film premiere of 2023, Collider Editor-in-Chief Steve Weintraub sat down with E2’s director Sam Hargrave and producer Anthony Russo for a candid Q&A. The thorough and genuine chat centers on the conceptualization and making of Extraction 2, and covers everything from nailing down the architecture of the storyline, to physically producing real and memorable action sequences, and even the details behind a cinematography mishap during the sequel’s epic train scene (hint: a real helicopter was involved).

“We’re taking risks, but they’re calculated risks and it’s all for you, for the audience, because I think that adrenaline that exists in my body as I’m holding the camera that fear, is translated and comes through the screen and your heart rate probably beats faster when my heart beats faster,” Sam Hargrave said about the physical production and stunt work for the sequel.

Extraction 2 is directed by Sam Hargrave, written by Joe Russo, and stars Chris Hemsworth and Golshifteh Farahani. It’s produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Hemsworth, Patrick Newall, Sam Hargrave, Eric Glitter, and Peter Schwerin.

As the momentum surrounding Extraction 2 continues to build, Netflix has greenlit a third installment of the film (Extraction 3), which has been officially green-lit.
